Hill Supports Extension of Unemployment Benefits Bill would support thousands of unemployed Hoosiers hit by the lagging economy
(Washington, DC) - Congressman Baron Hill supported the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008, H.R. 6867, when it was considered by the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon. The bill passed the House by a vote of 368 to 28. The legislation would extend unemployment benefits for seven weeks in all states and for thirteen weeks in states with unemployment rates of six percent or higher. Indiana’s unemployment rate for August was at 6.4 percent qualifying residents for the thirteen week extension of benefits.

Hill Opposes Financial Package Hill disappointed with the Senate Amendments that add billions to bill
(Washington, DC) - Congressman Baron Hill voted against the Senate version of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, H.R. 1424, that adds $150 billion in taxpayer spending to the original plan. The bill passed the House today by a vote of 263 to 171.

House Passes Government Funding Bill Bill includes economic stimulus and disaster funding provisions
(Washington, DC) - Yesterday, Congressman Baron Hill supported legislation that would fund the government at Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 levels through March 6, 2009. The Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009, H.R. 2638, would provide disaster relief, loans for automotive factory updates, and home energy assistance. The bill also includes the FY 2009 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Defense, and Homeland Security Appropriations bills. H.R. 2638 passed the House by a vote of 370 to 58.
