(Washington, DC) - Congressman Baron Hill and his colleagues in the Blue Dog Coalition will meet with President Obama at the White House this evening. The meeting will focus on a return to long-term fiscal discipline. As the group’s policy co-chair, Hill will be one of a handful of members to speak. In anticipation of the meeting, Hill issued the following statement:
“Yesterday I was able to deliver an important message to President Obama while traveling with him to and from the town hall meeting in Elkhart – yes, we need to jumpstart our economy but we must also return to budgeting principles, such as statutory PAYGO, that led to surpluses in the 1990s. And today, I will act upon that message when my Blue Dog Coalition colleagues and I meet with the President this evening. I take President Obama’s reception of my message and willingness to meet with the Blue Dogs a positive sign that he is truly on board with our goal to address our nation’s mounting debt."
