Hill Encourages Affected Constituents to Report Damage Caused by Early August Severe Storms
Toll-free number and web site set up to take info

(Washington, DC) - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) has set up a toll-free number and web site for residents of Southern Indiana to report damage caused by severe weather, including wind and flooding during August 4 – August 9, 2009.

Folks can call the toll-free phone number, 866-210-1925, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. until tomorrow evening, Wednesday, September 30, 2009, to report damage incurred.  Reports can also be submitted online via the IDHS’s website at www.in.gov/dhs.

Congressman Baron Hill is urging those who sustained damage to report their losses so as to strengthen the State’s appeal for federal assistance.  Callers should be prepared to offer detailed descriptions of the damage they incurred.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently denied Governor Mitch Daniels’ request for a Major Disaster Declaration.  Hill led the effort among Indiana’s congressional delegation supporting the Governor’s request for a Major Disaster Area Declaration for the State of Indiana and Hazard Mitigation statewide as a result of the severe storms and flooding that occurred on August 4 through August 9, 2009.  And, Hill has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Governor’s appeal of the decision.

“I would strongly encourage those who sustained damage due to the severe weather in early August to report it,” Hill said.  “This will strengthen our case that federal assistance is necessary.  And, I will certainly continue doing all I can to support the Governor’s appeal efforts.  If my office can be of any help, please don’t hesitate to call.”
